Must Have Been A Non-Core Promise!

Well, well, well! Apparently Peter Costello has learned what most of us have know for years. John Howard is a liar. Despite being the number two man in the coalition government since it won power in 1996, Costello was apparently unware of all the lies and deception.

The broken election promises, phone cards, GST, Tampa, SIEV X, WMDs in Iraq, David Hicks, Cornelia Rau et al, AWB… the list grows longer every week.

Poor, Peter. Apparently little Johnnie and Pete had an arrangement where little Johnnie would stand aside and let him be PM for a while. According to The Age, “Liberals went into shock when the Treasurer directly took on his leader, effectively accusing him of lying”. The deal is said to have taken place on December 5, 1994 ahead of a party meeting, as Liberals were seeking to replace Mr Downer as leader. Present were Howard, Costello and fellow Libs MP, Ian McLachlan. McLachlan took notes of the meeting between the two. The text of his note of the conversation reads:

“Meeting Monday Dec 1994. Undertaking given by JH at a meeting late pm in PC’s room that if AD resigned and Howard became PM then one and a half terms would be enough and he would hand over to PC. IMcL.”

John Howard has denied the claims. Howard told reporters the situation was “very simple — there was no deal made … there were lots of discussions at that time, including one in which Mr McLachlan was present, that did not involve the conclusion of a deal”.

At the end of the day, it is just further evidence that the government can’t be trusted…

You mean to tell me that 12 years is not a long time in politics??!!?? Blimey, it’s a long time in ANYTHING! Are you telling me you didn’t make promises back then (or since) that you haven’t kept??

Scary for someome (even a Daydreamer) who has been studying politics to seriously think that a promise by ANY party/politician made that long ago would be kept for so long. I personally call it naïve… Talk about scaping the bottom of the barrel for a dig at your least favoured party - surely you can come up with something with a little more substance?

AND how convenient all of a sudden you are taking full notice of the mass media - goes againt the grain I would have thought, but I guess we all listen to and believe what we want out of it if it supports our arguments, more’s the pity.

I think we should concede that politicians will say anything to get into office, promising the constituents and their party any old thing to hald the mantle for as long as they can.

Henestly, I don’t care which party we are talking about.

It’s like the bogan jock who will say anything to shag a girl, only to realise what a crap shag HE is. To keep Kudos he talks himself up, she disappears into the background, and the next one comes along, and he does it all over again.

Beazley really is a sorry SOB though, and probably a crap shag. Or maybe voters are the girl. I don’t know.
