The Blog Phenomenom Part II

While surfing, I came across a story on Blogger Buzz about Michael Brown, a graphic designer from Greensboro in North Carolina. Michael has been unemployed since 2003, and at the beginning of February, thinks took a turn for the worst. He was evicted from his house along with his family. The Greensboro News Record reported on his story:

“After Brown, 43, and his family were evicted from their northeast Greensboro home earlier this month, he turned to the public library and its computers for answers. Once online, he couldn’t find what he was looking for: advice from someone who was homeless.

So, he took up the task himself. He began posting to a Web log, or blog. There, he began to tell his story — how he became homeless and how he was dealing with it.”

News of Michael’s story has spread around the world. It has been picked up by the media in both Italy and Germany (as well as reaching me in Australia).

While blogs may not have the immediacy of face to face contact, they can open us to new ideas and new people that otherwise we could never possibly encounter, in a way that can only enrich our lives. I’ll take that over a bagwett and a pompalino any day of the week.

Michael’s blog is called a View From The Sidewalk. Check it out.
